Description

Oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate is catalyzed by pyruvate dehydrogenase and yields acetyl-CoA.

Pyruvate is an anion which cannot permeate through the lipid bilayer of membranes and hence requires a carrier: pyruvate carrier.
