In this talk, I will review the evidence of compartmentalization in the heart muscle cell. On the example of ATP and ADP diffusion, I will show how the system can be studied and which experimental approaches have been applied to analyze the movements of molecules in the cardiac cell. The creatine kinase system and its role in energy transfer between mitochondria, actomyosin and excitation-contraction coupling system will be discussed.
